Modern Kitchen Designs

I love being in my kitchen, I think in another life I would have been a pastry chef. I love making yummy treats or a delicious dinner for my family to enjoy. The sights, the smells, I love it all. My husband and I have lived in a lot of different style homes over the last ten years. Some kitchens I have loved and others I found it hard to work in.

Dining Room in the Making

Last week I posted about finishing the basement family room. If you missed it, you can read about it here. After we moved all of the living room furniture downstairs I had a big empty room left upstairs. This empty space is now becoming our new dining room. I really wanted a dining space that was light and bright, somewhere we could gather and enjoy our meal together with friends and family. Up until now we have been eating at the peninsula off the kitchen. Here is the dining room/living room space before we moved in.

DIY Decorative Ladder

Hello friends! I found a beautiful vintage quilt and two matching antique ladders at our local antique store but silly me didn't purchase them immediately. When I went back to buy them they were all sold. I still wanted a ladder to hold my growing quilt collection, so I decided to build one with scrap wood I had around. This is it!

Quick Shelf Update

Do you remember from my Instagram post awhile back how I made these floating shelves for my daughter's room?

I liked them but since I am updating her room, I decided to give them an update as well. So first I added some leftover 1x3 boards I had from other projects. I made them shorter than the top board.

(Ignore the pocket holes, I was talking to my daughter while building these shelves and put my board on backwards)

Then I added these shelf brackets I picked up from Lowes. They were less than $4 a piece.

After they were assembled, I gave them two coats of Sherwin Williams Creamy paint.

Aren't they cute? I can't wait to put them up in my daughter's bedroom.

Happy DIYing!!

Guest Bathroom Update

Today I will be sharing our main bathrooms mini update. Here is a before picture without any updates done. The bathroom is a good size but needed to be refreshed.  Our master bath also had this same vanity top.

The previous owners had updated the vanity, added another sink, and tiled the floor just before we moved in. So we didn't need to do anything there.

I wanted to add some shelving above the toilet for extra storage, decorations and to bring in some warmth. I had these beautiful live edge cedar boards that were perfect for the job so I cut them down and gave them a good seal.

We wanted a blue color for the walls, I choose the color watery. The color sample seemed much lighter in the the hardware store than on the walls. If I could do it over I would have chosen saltwater instead.

I'm still looking for a mirror and light fixture replacement but over all we are enjoying this small update. Here's some more updated shots.

Happy decorating!!
