DIY Potted Plant Centerpiece Video Tutorial

December 28, 2020

Today I am sharing a video tutorial for a DIY potted plant centerpiece. I love this project so much! Its super easy to do and will last a really long time if cared for properly. I like to use this type of centerpiece on my dining room table but it looks great on a coffee table, an entryway table, outdoors, at weddings or other social eventS!

I started off using my favorite soil Miracle-Gro Cactus, Palm and Citrus Mix. I love this soil because it is a fast draining formula that contains a mix of sphagnum peat moss, composted forest products, sand and perlite. Usually this soil is used for cactus, palm, citrus and other succulents to help prevent the soil compacting and improving the drainage. I find it useful for my house plants as well so I don’t ever worry about overwatering. The soil is great for containers and feeds your plants up to 6 months with Miracle-Gro continuous release plant food.

I saw this Terracotta Clay Low Bowl Planter and saucer at Lowes and I knew immediately I wanted to use it for a plant centerpiece. Terracotta is one of my favorite materials. I love its warm color, the porous texture that allows roots to breathe and it naturally balances the PH for healthier plants.

I choose the plants I used based on color and texture. I was drawn to the Plumosa Fern and the Fluffy Ruffle Fern right away. I adore ferns! I added in a Dracaena plant for a spikey texture, two Nerve plants for balance, a Purple Waffle and Dragons Breathe plant to carry the purple hues of the Dracaena across the bowl.

This centerpiece would look great with any 2”-4” indoor plants. I used 7 plants total. You can find some great options in the indoor plant section at Lowes!

You could also make a centerpiece using succulents which are even easier to care for, just don’t over water!!

Sunrooms connect indoor and outdoor areas. Due to their resilience, I recommend selecting durable outdoor materials such as teak, aluminum, and resin wicker when choosing lounge furniture for this space. Creating a cozy atmosphere will enhance your sunroom's beauty while protecting your furniture investment.
